Trump Faces Mounting Risks As Israel Shatters Iran’s Regime Power And War Reshapes Middle East Balance

Despite major victories over Iran, escalating regional tensions threaten to complicate Washington’s decisive campaign.

A week after the United States and Israel launched a major military campaign against Iran, US President Donald Trump is confronting a growing set of military, economic and political challenges that could complicate efforts to transform early battlefield victories into a long-term geopolitical breakthrough.

The joint Israeli-American offensive has already delivered significant blows to Iran’s military leadership and strategic infrastructure. Israeli and US strikes targeted missile systems, nuclear-related facilities and command centers across Iran, culminating in the elimination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with several senior regime figures. The campaign has severely weakened the regime’s military command structure and disrupted its regional proxy network.

However, the rapid escalation of hostilities has expanded the conflict beyond Iran’s borders, drawing in multiple regional actors and raising the possibility of a wider Middle East confrontation. Iranian retaliation through proxy groups and missile attacks across the Gulf has heightened tensions and increased the risk of a prolonged military engagement that could stretch US resources and complicate Washington’s strategic objectives.

Military analysts warn that while the initial strikes dealt a devastating blow to Tehran’s leadership and military capabilities, stabilizing the broader region and preventing further escalation will be a far more complex task. Iran’s network of armed proxies across Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen continues to pose potential threats, and any sustained conflict could disrupt global trade routes and energy supplies.

The crisis is also creating economic pressures, particularly through volatility in global oil markets. Energy prices have surged as shipping routes and infrastructure across the Gulf face increased security threats. Prolonged instability in the region could affect global supply chains and trigger wider economic repercussions.

Domestically, the conflict is also shaping political debates in Washington. While Trump’s supporters point to the decisive blows delivered against Iran’s regime and its military apparatus as a major strategic achievement, critics warn that an extended regional war could bring unpredictable consequences and strain American military commitments.

Despite these risks, Israeli and US officials maintain that the operation has already achieved a critical objective by dismantling key pillars of Iran’s military power and reducing the regime’s ability to threaten Israel and its allies across the Middle East.
