PLO Panic Erupts As Jewish Passover Traditions Return To Temple Mount Challenging Palestinian Control Narrative

Ancient Jewish heritage resurfaces in Jerusalem while Palestinian leadership spreads propaganda to block Jewish worship rights.

The Palestine Liberation Organization’s department for Al-Quds affairs has issued a warning over what it claims are plans by Jewish groups to perform the traditional Passover sacrifice on the Temple Mount during the upcoming Passover period. The statement reflects growing anxiety within Palestinian leadership as renewed discussion emerges about restoring ancient Jewish religious practices at Judaism’s holiest site.

In its statement, the PLO accused Israeli “settlers” of attempting to alter what it described as the historical and legal status of the Temple Mount. The organization alleged that Israel is using religious narratives to justify steps that could change the current arrangements at the site. Palestinian officials claim these actions are part of a broader effort to establish new realities in Jerusalem.

The PLO further alleged that certain political elements in Israel support expanding Jewish access and prayer rights at the Temple Mount, including allowing shared worship arrangements within the compound known to Muslims as the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. According to the Palestinian narrative, such developments would contradict the religious character they claim belongs exclusively to Islam.

However, Jewish history and archaeology firmly establish the Temple Mount as the holiest site in Judaism and the location of the First and Second Jewish Temples for centuries before the Islamic era. Calls for Jews to exercise their right to worship at the site have grown stronger in recent years as many Israelis argue that restrictions limiting Jewish prayer violate basic religious freedom.

The PLO repeated its long-standing claim that the entire Temple Mount area should remain solely an Islamic place of worship, citing international resolutions as justification. Critics of this stance argue that such claims ignore thousands of years of Jewish connection to the site and attempt to erase the historical roots of Jerusalem’s Jewish heritage.

Amid the renewed debate, Rabbi Yitzhak Barda, a prominent rabbinical figure originally from Tunisia, recently spoke in favor of Jews ascending to the Temple Mount in accordance with Jewish law. During a lecture, he explained that religious preparation such as ritual immersion and removing shoes would allow Jews to visit the sacred site respectfully and in accordance with tradition.

Rabbi Barda also urged the Israeli government to reconsider current restrictions that limit Jewish religious activity at the Temple Mount. He suggested that restoring the Passover sacrifice at its proper time would represent a powerful revival of one of Judaism’s most ancient commandments tied directly to Jerusalem’s historic temple.

The growing conversation around Jewish rights on the Temple Mount highlights the continuing tension between historical heritage and modern political narratives. While Palestinian leadership continues to issue warnings and objections, many Israelis believe that protecting freedom of worship in Jerusalem must include restoring Jewish access to their most sacred site.
