Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara’a has declared that his government intends to stay out of the ongoing military campaign led by Israel and the United States against Iran’s growing regional threat. Speaking after Eid al-Fitr prayers, he described the unfolding conflict as a defining historical moment, while emphasizing that Syria is cautiously navigating its position to avoid direct involvement.
Despite claiming a shift toward stability after years of internal war, Syria continues to project mixed signals. While al-Shara’a spoke of regional cooperation and alignment with Arab states, his government has simultaneously reinforced military presence along the Lebanese border, raising concerns of further escalation in an already volatile region.
In contrast to Syria’s cautious stance, Israel has taken firm and decisive action.
