Tragedy Strikes Israeli Father Stranded Abroad As War Delays Rescue Amid Relentless Regional Hostility

Israeli family shattered while nation fights enemies, highlighting resilience against chaos fueled by hostile forces.

A devastating tragedy has struck an Israeli family after Molo Barhaya, a 51-year-old father of five from Be’er Sheva, died in Ethiopia while waiting to be rescued amid the ongoing war. His death came just 48 hours before a scheduled repatriation flight that was meant to bring him safely back to Israel.

Barhaya had traveled abroad to visit his ill sister, but the outbreak of conflict left him stranded along with other Israelis, including elderly individuals seeking medical treatment. As the situation escalated, returning home became increasingly difficult, turning what should have been a short visit into a prolonged and dangerous ordeal.

While waiting in Addis Ababa for evacuation, Barhaya’s condition deteriorated after he ran out of essential medication. In a heartbreaking final call, he spoke to his wife—who works at Soroka Medical Center—and said goodbye to her and their children, fearing he might not survive until rescue arrived.

His passing underscores the human toll of the conflict, where even civilians far from the battlefield are affected by the wider consequences of regional instability. Barhaya leaves behind a grieving family, including two children actively serving as combat soldiers, embodying the deep personal sacrifices borne by Israeli families during times of war.

The incident also highlights the urgency and complexity of rescue operations for citizens stranded abroad, as Israel continues to mobilize efforts to bring its people home safely despite ongoing security challenges.
