Trump calls for international naval presence to keep strategic oil corridor open amid Iranian threats.
United States President Donald Trump announced that the United States and several allied nations could deploy naval forces to safeguard global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with Iran continue to escalate. Trump made the statement in a post on Truth Social, suggesting that multiple countries dependent on the vital trade route should participate in protecting maritime traffic.
Trump indicated that nations such as China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom could join the effort by sending warships to the region. The proposed multinational presence aims to ensure that commercial shipping and global energy supplies continue moving safely through the strategic waterway despite ongoing threats from Iran.
In the same message, Trump claimed that the United States had already destroyed what he described as nearly all of Iran’s military capabilities during the ongoing campaign. However, he cautioned that Iran could still attempt smaller disruptive attacks designed to interfere with shipping activity in the strait.
According to Trump, even after suffering major military losses, Iran may try to deploy tactics such as drones, sea mines, or short-range missiles along the narrow passage. These limited actions, he warned, could still create dangers for cargo vessels and oil tankers passing through the corridor.
Trump also emphasized that American forces remain prepared to continue military operations in the region if Iran attempts to threaten shipping lanes. He stated that US forces could strike coastal targets and Iranian boats operating near the strait if required to secure safe navigation.
The president added that restoring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is a priority and that the situation would ultimately be resolved. He reiterated that countries affected by disruptions in the waterway should contribute naval assets so that the route remains protected and open to international trade.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors, serving as a critical gateway for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Trump stressed that the objective of the proposed naval deployments is to ensure the waterway remains open, secure, and free for international commerce.
