US President Donald Trump on Wednesday sharply condemned Iran’s regime, claiming that tens of thousands of unarmed protesters have been killed in recent months—highlighting what he described as the brutal reality behind Tehran’s leadership. In a pointed message directed at Pope Leo XIV, Trump underscored that allowing such a regime to acquire nuclear weapons is “absolutely unacceptable,” reinforcing the urgency of continued pressure.
At the same time, negotiations between the United States and Iran remain tense and unresolved. During recent talks in Islamabad, Washington demanded a complete suspension of Iran’s uranium enrichment program for 20 years, along with the removal of highly enriched uranium from Iranian territory. These demands align with long-standing Israeli concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the risks they pose to regional and global security.
Iran, however, pushed back with a significantly reduced proposal—offering to halt enrichment for only up to five years and insisting that enriched material remain داخل the country, albeit in a diluted form. The Trump administration has rejected these terms, viewing them as insufficient to eliminate the threat of rapid nuclear rearmament.
