Daycare Law Crisis Rocks Coalition As Haredi Factions Accuse Netanyahu Of Betraying Promise.
The political crisis over the Daycare Law deepened after Likud informed the haredi factions that there is currently no Knesset majority to pass the legislation.
Degel HaTorah responded angrily, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud of retreating from a clear commitment to bring the bill for approval. The faction said it would not accept any delay, retreat, or political maneuvering around the law.
Agudat Yisrael joined the pressure, declaring that the entire faction stands united with Degel HaTorah in demanding that Netanyahu fulfill his promise. The party warned that failure to pass the law would effectively signal that the prime minister is preparing to dissolve the Knesset and move toward elections.
Tensions are also growing inside the haredi political camp, with United Torah Judaism officials directing criticism at Shas chairman Aryeh Deri. Party sources claim Deri is working behind the scenes to delay the Daycare Law because he does not want UTJ leaders to secure a major achievement among haredi voters.
A UTJ source accused Deri of promoting alternative ideas, including a new Draft Law and Torah Study Law, while misleading Netanyahu with proposals that are unlikely to advance.
The message to Likud was described as blunt and serious. United Torah Judaism reportedly warned Netanyahu that stopping the Daycare Law would cross a red line and damage everything going forward.
The clash erupted after Netanyahu said there is no majority to approve the legislation, triggering a sharp confrontation between the haredi factions and the coalition leadership.
The crisis now threatens to shake coalition stability, with haredi parties framing the Daycare Law as a direct test of Netanyahu’s promises, Likud’s reliability, and the future of the government.
