Witkoff says Iran bragged about bomb capacity, prompting decisive US-Israel action.
US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, disclosed that Iranian negotiators openly claimed during nuclear discussions that they possessed enough highly enriched material to produce eleven nuclear bombs.
Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News, Witkoff said Iranian officials showed no hesitation in describing their stockpile of enriched uranium. According to him, they admitted controlling 460 kilograms enriched to 60 percent purity and acknowledged that such material could be weaponized rapidly. He warned that uranium enriched to 20 percent could reach weapons-grade levels within weeks, while higher-grade stock could be converted in as little as days.
Witkoff characterized the negotiations as unproductive, stating it became clear early on that Tehran was not serious about reaching an agreement aligned with US objectives. He explained that President Donald Trump had tasked him and Jared Kushner with determining whether Iran would commit to eliminating its missile program, ending support for regional proxy forces, halting naval threats to maritime routes including the Gulf of Hormuz, and permanently abandoning nuclear enrichment capable of reaching weapons grade.
Despite multiple rounds of talks, including meetings following discussions in Geneva and plans for technical negotiations in Vienna, Witkoff said progress was illusory. He described the second meeting as effectively confirming the futility of the process, with a final attempt made only to ensure every diplomatic avenue had been explored.
The disclosures came amid escalating military developments. After the collapse of talks and rising regional tensions, the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian leadership and strategic assets, marking a dramatic turning point in the confrontation.
