Ukraine demands consequences after Moscow’s brutal missile and drone barrage kills civilians and devastates Kyiv.
Russia used its powerful Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile for the third time in the war during a massive assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region that killed at least four people and injured around 100.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia struck Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region with the missile as part of a wider attack that damaged homes, schools, a market and a water supply facility. He described the assault as another example of Moscow’s brutality, saying Russian forces are “genuinely deranged.”
According to Zelenskyy, Russia launched around 600 drones and 90 missiles of different types, including 36 ballistic missiles. He said Kyiv was the main target and that not all ballistic missiles were intercepted, leading to heavy damage across the capital.
Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the use of the Oreshnik, a missile capable of carrying either conventional or nuclear warheads. Moscow claimed the strikes targeted Ukrainian command centers, airbases and military industries using Oreshnik, Iskander, Kinzhal and Zircon missiles.
Russia said the attack was retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities inside Russian territory, but Ukraine reported widespread damage to civilian areas.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people were killed and dozens injured in the capital, with damage recorded in every district. Officials in the surrounding region reported two more deaths and additional injuries.
Zelenskyy said the attack must not pass without consequences for Russia, as Ukraine again called for stronger international pressure against Moscow’s escalating missile terror.
