Draft Law tensions reshape Israeli politics while opposition seeks new path to bring down government.
Yashar party chairman Gadi Eisenkot and Degel Hatorah chairman MK Moshe Gafni reportedly held a secret meeting last week, signaling possible movement in Israel’s shifting political landscape.
According to the report, the meeting took place shortly after Rabbi Dov Lando, the leader of the Lithuanian haredi community, announced the dissolution of the right-wing bloc.
The atmosphere between Eisenkot and Gafni was described as highly positive, drawing attention across the political system because of the ongoing Draft Law controversy and growing uncertainty over the future of the governing coalition.
Eisenkot has publicly said that equal sharing of the national service burden remains a red line for him. However, haredi politicians reportedly view him as one of the most pragmatic figures for reaching a compromise on the issue.
The meeting may suggest that haredi political leaders are exploring alternatives beyond their traditional alignment with the right-wing bloc. It also reflects rising pressure on the government as opposition figures search for ways to advance elections and replace the current coalition.
Sources close to Eisenkot declined to confirm or deny the meeting, but said he is working through several channels to bring down the government and move Israel toward elections.
Gafni’s office also avoided direct comment, saying it does not discuss meetings held with public figures.
