An SUV rammed into a crowd Saturday night at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Multiple people were reported dead and others were injured, reports said. A suspect is in custody.
The driver was restrained by multiple bystanders until the police arrived, after attempting to flee the scene on foot, a witness told 1130 News Radio.
The Vancouver Police Department confirmed, “A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival.”
Vancouver’s mayor, Ken Sim, tweeted, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as we can, but at this time Vancouver PD have confirmed that there are a number of fatalities and multiple injuries. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”
“Just heard the tragic news of the horrendous attack at the Lapu Lapu festival. I am praying for all the victims and their families,” Canadian MP Don Davies tweeted.
