AG, PM compromise: David Zini to be appointed ISA chief after Qatargate probe

Netanyahu Cleared to Nominate David Zini as Shin Bet Chief—Pending “QatarGate” Probe Conclusion

In a significant development on Tuesday, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s legal team submitted a joint agreement to the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of the next head of Israel’s internal security agency, the Shin Bet (ISA).

As per the submitted arrangement, Prime Minister Netanyahu may move forward with his intention to nominate Major General (res.) David Zini as the next Shin Bet chief—but only after the conclusion of the ongoing “QatarGate” investigation being conducted by both the Israel Police and the Shin Bet itself.

Until that time, the current acting director, known publicly only as Sh., will continue to lead the agency.

The agreement follows Supreme Court justices’ guidance last week encouraging both sides to reach a consensus, thereby avoiding a court-imposed ruling on the politically sensitive issue.
