In Memory of Abraham Azulay: A Pioneer Who Fell Building and Defending the Land
The Samaria Regional Council has announced the death of Abraham Azulay, 25, a resident of Shaked Farm in the hills of Yitzhar, who was killed while operating engineering machinery during IDF activity in the Gaza Strip. Azulay fell just three months after his wedding, and becomes the third resident of Yitzhar to die in the Swords of Iron War.
According to an initial IDF investigation, during a military operation in Khan Yunis, terrorists emerged from a tunnel and launched a surprise attack. Abraham, serving as an engineering vehicle operator, fought to prevent his abduction and was tragically shot and killed in the struggle. Nearby forces responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and successfully thwarting the attempted abduction. Several terrorists were neutralized. The incident remains under investigation.
Abraham was among dozens of volunteers from Yitzhar who joined IDF efforts in Gaza, using heavy machinery to assist in engineering and support operations.
Samaria Governor Yossi Dagan paid tribute to Abraham’s dedication and character:
“Abraham was a hero and a true pioneer — one of the builders of the hilltops and the farms. He devoted himself to preparing roads, developing farms, and advancing the settlement of the Land of Israel. He arrived in Samaria as a young man with a mission, and he carried it out with courage, love, and steadfast belief. He is the 31st from our region to fall in this war. Abraham gave his life doing what he loved — building and defending the land and the people. The Samaria Regional Council family stands with Ruth and will ensure she is supported in every way. We mourn with the Azoulai and Yogev families, and with all of Yitzhar and Itamar.”
Golan Avgi, chairman of the Yitzhar Local Council, echoed this sentiment:
“Abraham established a Jewish labor enterprise and was among the first to volunteer for reserve service with heavy machinery in Gaza. He was a man of integrity, talent, humility, and goodness. Everyone who knew him loved him. His loss is felt deeply across the entire community.”
Azulay now joins Sergeant Yehonatan Luber and Sergeant Shneur Zalman Cohen, both also from Yitzhar, in the ranks of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Yehonatan fell in southern Gaza a year and a half ago; Shneur Zalman in the north, eight months ago.
Though the pain is immeasurable, Abraham’s legacy — of resilience, of building, of defending the land he so loved — endures. He died not only in uniform, but in purpose, driven by faith and service.
May his memory be a blessing, and may his courage inspire future generations.
