Sesame Street’s Elmo X Account Hacked, Used to Post Antisemitic Hate Before Rapid Takedown.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Elmo, the beloved Sesame Street character, was hacked late Sunday night and used to post shocking antisemitic and violent messages, including explicit calls to “kill the Jews.”
The disturbing content—which also included profane references to Donald Trump, conspiracy theories, and racist slurs—was removed within an hour of posting. Prior to the hate-filled messages, the hacker posted an image of Elmo on the moon alongside the caption: “Happy crypto all-time high day, everybody! From Elmo and @onchainstudios. To the moon!!”
Shortly afterward, the account was used to disseminate vitriolic antisemitic propaganda. One now-deleted post read:
“Elmo says ALL JEWS SHOULD DIE. F— JEWS. DONALD TRUMP IS NETANYAHU’S PUPPET BECAUSE HE IS IN THE EPSTEIN FILES. JEWS CONTROL THE WORLD AND NEED TO BE EXTERMINATED. RELEASE THE FILES @realDonaldTrump CHILD F—ER.”
Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, issued a statement to Fox News Digital, saying:
“Elmo’s X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts. We are working to restore full control of the account.”
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of antisemitic content on social media platforms and follows broader concerns over rising hate speech online.
Sesame Street, a pioneering children’s program that began airing in 1969 and has inspired localized versions worldwide—including in Israel—has long stood as a symbol of diversity, education, and inclusivity. The show recently made headlines after President Donald Trump moved to defund public broadcasters NPR and PBS, longtime platforms for the series.
The account breach is being widely condemned, with calls for X to bolster platform security and accountability—especially for high-profile accounts followed by millions, including children and families.
