“Ambassador Huckabee Slams Ireland’s Proposed Ban on Israeli Settlement Goods as ‘Diplomatic Intoxication’”

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee sharply rebukes Ireland’s plan to criminalize imports from Israeli settlements, calling it misguided and harmful to both Arabs and Israelis.

U.S. Ambassador and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has launched a scathing critique of Ireland’s new legislative proposal aimed at banning the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

In a fiery tweet, Huckabee wrote,
“Did the Irish fall into a vat of Guinness & propose something so stupid that it would be attributed to an act of diplomatic intoxication?”
He added, “It will harm Arabs as much as Israelis. Sober up Ireland! Call Israel & say you’re sorry!”

The proposed legislation, formally titled the Israeli Settlements (Prohibition of Importation of Goods) 2025, is on track to pass within weeks. If enacted, Ireland would become the first European Union member state to impose a legal ban specifically targeting imports from Jewish communities in territories that critics label “occupied Palestinian land.”

The move has drawn sharp reactions not just from Israel but from allies abroad, who argue that such a measure risks penalizing peaceful economic cooperation and could backfire by hurting Palestinian workers employed in those industrial zones.

Huckabee’s statement underscores growing U.S. concern that the bill, while symbolic, could inject division into EU-Israel relations and compromise the livelihoods of both Jewish and Arab residents of the region.U.S. Ambassador and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has launched a scathing critique of Ireland’s new legislative proposal aimed at banning the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
