President Herzog: Israel Will Defend Druze Citizens and Act Decisively Against Jihadist Threats

President Isaac Herzog vowed that Israel will not tolerate jihadist aggression from Syria or threats to its Druze community, reaffirming national unity and urging restraint at the Herzl Memorial Ceremony.

“Israel will never remain silent in the face of jihadist threats or when our Druze brothers and sisters are in danger.”
That was the powerful message from President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday evening, as he addressed mounting tensions on the Syrian border during the State Memorial Ceremony for Theodor Herzl in Jerusalem.

Herzog did not mince words, declaring that the Jewish state has unshakable red lines — and recent developments have only underscored their urgency.

“This vision — of a peaceful, normalized Middle East — stands on principles we will never compromise. The events in Syria highlight exactly what’s at stake.”

Referring to the disturbing violence across the northern frontier and the threat of jihadist elements infiltrating from Syria, Herzog emphasized two non-negotiables:

“Israel will never ignore a jihadist threat at our border. And Israel will never turn its back on the sons and daughters of the Druze community — they are family, they are us. We will act to defend them.”

In a clear appeal to calm and unity, Herzog also urged the public — especially members of the Druze community — not to take independent action:

“We understand your pain. We share your outrage. But let us uphold the law. Do not cross the border. Let the IDF and our diplomatic channels do their job. We are acting — and we will continue acting — to restore peace and security to the region.”

Herzog’s remarks reinforced Israel’s unwavering commitment to protecting both its sovereignty and every citizen — especially the Druze community, whose loyalty and sacrifices remain woven into the fabric of Israeli society.
