Israeli Police Arrest Two Men Returning from Syria with Weapon in Border Operation

Northern District Police and Border Police arrest two Israeli citizens who crossed into Syria and returned armed amid growing border tensions.

Golan Heights —
In a coordinated security operation near the Syrian border, Israeli Police and Border Police forces, working in tandem with the IDF, apprehended two residents of northern Israel who had illegally crossed into Syrian territory and returned carrying a Kalashnikov rifle and a loaded magazine.

The suspects, identified as residents of Kisra and Beit Jann, were intercepted upon re-entry into Israel. Their movements triggered an urgent security response due to escalating tensions in the Golan Heights and recent incidents involving border breaches.

The operation, part of a joint initiative between the Northern District Police, Border Police units, and additional security forces, was launched following the closure of newly discovered gaps in the border fence.

In the wake of the breach, Israeli authorities worked closely with Druze community leaders and the IDF to coordinate the safe return of any Israeli citizens who may have crossed the border, while also investigating potential security threats.

The two individuals were taken into custody and transferred for interrogation, and police are expected to request an extension of their detention in court pending further investigation.

Authorities emphasized the seriousness of the incident, underscoring the risks posed by unauthorized border crossings and illicit weapons trafficking in an already volatile region.
