Israel’s National Math Team clinches 4 golds and a 6th-place global rank — its best-ever performance at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
A Moment of Mathematical Glory for Israel!
For the first time since joining the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 1979, Israel’s National Mathematics Team has soared to unprecedented heights, securing its highest-ever global ranking — 6th place out of 110 participating countries — at the 66th IMO, held this year in Australia.
In a dazzling display of intellect and precision, all six Israeli team members brought home medals, including four golds, one silver, and one bronze. The team outshone competitors from around the globe, battling against 639 elite students from across 110 nations in one of the most prestigious math competitions worldwide.
🏅 The medal-winning champions of Team Israel:
- Raz Dvora (12th grade, De Shalit High School, Rehovot) – Gold
- Eithan Grinzaid (12th grade, Ehad Ha’Am High School, Petah Tikva) – Gold
- Shahar Blumentzvaig (11th grade, Atid Lod Science High School, Modi’in) – Gold
- Yotam Budnik (11th grade, De Shalit High School, Rehovot) – Gold
- Nadav Dan Tamari (12th grade, Ohel Shem High School, Ramat Gan) – Silver
- Ariel Doron (12th grade, Kfar Hayarok, Ramat Hasharon) – Bronze
Their success reflects a powerful collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Maimonides Fund’s Future Scientists Center, and the Weizmann Institute of Science, where the team underwent intensive training led by Dr. Dmitry Novikov and Head Coach Lev Radzivilovsky. The delegation was led by Dr. Dan Carmon, with trainers Daniel Kaner, Giora Shvidler, and Ronel Lakker guiding the team to greatness.
📣 Education Minister Yoav Kisch lauded the students’ brilliance:
“After last week’s chemistry triumph, our math team shattered records — four gold medals and a ranking Israel has never reached before. This is proof that nurturing excellence yields world-class achievements. These students — Raz, Eithan, Shahar, Yotam, Nadav, and Ariel — represent not just brilliance, but the promise of a visionary education system.”
🎓 Yarom Ariav, Chairman of the Future Scientists Center, added:
“This historic feat showcases Israel’s growing leadership in global science and mathematics. The team’s perseverance and brilliance are an inspiration. We remain committed to fueling such talent with tools and opportunities for even greater breakthroughs.”
🔬 Prof. Alon Chen, President of the Weizmann Institute, echoed the sentiment:
“Their victory is far more than a collection of medals — it’s a beacon for Israel’s scientific future. As we nurture these young leaders, we strengthen our country’s resilience through innovation and knowledge.”
