A night of chaos and horror unfolded in Midtown Manhattan Monday evening as a gunman opened fire inside 345 Park Avenue, killing four people, including a New York City police officer, before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deadly rampage rocked one of Manhattan’s most prominent business districts—home to Blackstone Group and NFL headquarters—leaving one officer, three civilians dead, and five others injured as panicked workers fled the scene.

“The situation is now contained. The shooter is neutralized,” confirmed NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in a press conference late Monday night.


🚨 Slain Hero: Officer Didarul Islam

The officer killed was identified as Didarul Islam, 36, a Bangladeshi immigrant who had proudly served the NYPD for over 3 years. Commissioner Tisch called him a dedicated public servant who ran toward danger in the face of unimaginable risk.


🔫 The Gunman: Shane Tamura, Las Vegas

The shooter, identified as Shane Tamura, a resident of Las Vegas, had a “documented mental health history”, though his exact motive remains unknown.

“We are still investigating why he targeted this particular building,” Tisch stated.

Officials confirmed that Tamura died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending the brief but deadly attack that lasted just minutes but left a deep scar in the heart of New York.

The shooting erupted at 345 Park Avenue, a high-security office building that houses Blackstone’s global headquarters and NFL executive offices. Investigators are currently examining whether the gunman had any connection to the companies or employees inside.

Mayor Eric Adams warned residents to avoid the area during the chaos:

“Please stay indoors if you’re near Park Avenue and East 51st Street. An active shooter incident is unfolding.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul also issued an alert, stating she had been briefed on the incident and urged calm and vigilance.
