As Tisha B’Av Ends, Thousands Unite at Western Wall in Powerful National Prayer for Hostages, Soldiers, and Healing

As the solemn fast of Tisha B’Av concludes, thousands of Israelis are converging on the Western Wall Plaza for a moving night of unity, prayer, and hope — calling for the return of hostages, protection of soldiers, and healing of the wounded.

Jerusalem — Tonight, as the sun sets on the mournful fast of Tisha B’Av, a sea of worshippers will fill the Western Wall Plaza, turning one of Judaism’s saddest days into a rallying cry for unity and redemption.

Led by Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Chief Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, the national prayer service will focus on three heartfelt pleas:

  1. The safe return of all Israeli hostages from Gaza
  2. The protection and strength of IDF soldiers on the front lines
  3. The healing of the wounded, both in body and spirit

The event will be broadcast live on the Western Wall Heritage Foundation’s website and streamed at dozens of locations across Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.

🕯️ From Mourning to Hope

Tisha B’Av, the day marking the destruction of both the First and Second Temples, is also a reminder of the dangers of baseless hatred. Tonight’s gathering seeks to transform grief into national unity, weaving together prayers for Israel’s survival, redemption, and peace.

Earlier, thousands joined the Circle of Song — an emotional tradition held at dusk on the eve of the fast, where Jews from all walks of life sing and lament together. The event’s haunting melodies and shared tears were broadcast to a global audience, creating a moment of spiritual connection across continents.

🌙 The Night Continues

After the fast, attendees will receive break‑the‑fast kits in a respectful and organized manner, before joining in the traditional blessing of the new moon — a ritual symbolizing renewal and light after darkness. The blessing, expected to draw huge crowds, will be led by prominent rabbis and community leaders into the early hours of Monday morning.

📌 The Spirit of the Night

In a year marked by war, loss, and resilience, tonight’s prayers carry an extra weight. As the words echo against the ancient stones of the Western Wall, they bind a nation together in faith, determination, and the hope that redemption will follow destruction.
