On Tisha B’Av, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders led a heartfelt family visit to the Western Wall, pledging Arkansas’ steadfast solidarity with Israel and offering prayers for both nations.
Jerusalem — On one of the holiest and most somber days in the Jewish calendar, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders touched down in Israel and made her first stop the Western Wall Plaza — arriving with her husband, her parents, and former Arkansas Governor and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, along with her mother.
The visit coincided with Tisha B’Av, the day of mourning commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. Waiting to greet them was Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, who shared the deep spiritual significance of this ancient place — a site of Jewish prayer, yearning, and resilience for millennia.
Governor Sanders listened intently as Rabbi Rabinowitz described the Wall’s role in Jewish history, particularly its meaning on Tisha B’Av, when Jews worldwide reflect on national loss and spiritual renewal.
Moved by the moment, Sanders penned a personal prayer on paper, gently tucking it between the centuries-old stones. She also signed the official guestbook, leaving behind words of solidarity and respect.
“It is an honor to be here. I’m grateful to join my parents in prayer for Israel, the United States, and especially the people of Arkansas. This is a sacred and special place, and I’m proud to express solidarity and support here — and to remember that Arkansas will always stand with Israel,” Sanders said.
Her visit symbolized more than personal devotion; it underscored the close ties between Arkansas and Israel, and between the American people and the Jewish state.
On this day of mourning and hope, Sanders’ presence at the Wall carried a powerful message — one of unity, shared values, and enduring friendship.
