Montreal reels after a 32-year-old Jewish man is violently assaulted in broad daylight before his children, sparking outrage and calls for swift justice.
Montreal police have opened a full-scale investigation after a disturbing street attack on a 32-year-old Jewish man unfolded in front of his children in the city’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district, CBC reported.
A spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service confirmed the authenticity of a video circulating online, which captures part of the violent assault. The footage shows the victim being struck multiple times before the attacker flees.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but the emotional trauma — particularly for his children, who witnessed the attack — is immeasurable. The assailant remains at large, and police have yet to determine a motive.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) condemned the assault in a Facebook statement alongside the video, urging swift action:
“Leaders at all levels of government must confront this dangerous escalation. The attacker must be held accountable.”
The incident comes amid rising concerns over antisemitic violence in Canada, with community leaders warning that unchecked hostility could embolden further attacks.
