A deadly shooting at a Crown Heights restaurant left three men dead and eight others wounded, but police stress the attack was not aimed at the neighborhood’s large Jewish population.
The New York Police Department confirmed that at least three men were killed and eight others injured, including three women, in a shooting late Saturday night at a restaurant in Crown Heights, a Brooklyn neighborhood home to thousands of Jews.
According to police, the gunfire erupted inside a restaurant owned by Dominican immigrants, and involved multiple shooters who remain at large. Authorities are still searching for the suspects.
While Crown Heights is a major hub of Jewish life in New York, the NYPD emphasized there is no indication the shooting was an antisemitic attack. Investigators believe it stemmed from local criminal or personal disputes rather than being directed at the Jewish community.
The incident has nonetheless rattled residents of the area, which has a history of both communal tensions and vibrant multicultural life.
