A Vienna Jewish family, including two children and a 75-year-old grandmother, was terrorized by an Uber driver who hurled antisemitic slurs, expelled them from his car, and physically assaulted the father—sparking outrage and warnings of Europe’s growing Jewish exodus.
A Jewish family in Vienna, Austria endured a terrifying antisemitic assault last week when an Uber driver turned violent after discovering that some of his passengers were from Israel.
The family—comprised of a couple, their children aged 10 and 13, and a 75-year-old grandmother—was on its way to a birthday party when the driver began shouting antisemitic slurs, calling them “murderers” and “baby killers.”
According to the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG Wien) Antisemitism Reporting Center, the driver declared he would not carry “child killers” in his vehicle. He pulled over, ordered the family to leave, then escalated by chasing them out and physically attacking the father while continuing his tirade.
Community Outrage
The shaken family immediately reported the incident to IKG Wien, which accompanied the victims to the police to file a formal complaint. The organization has since been providing the family with continuous support.
IKG President Oscar Deutsch issued a chilling warning:
“If decisive action is not taken against this—by politicians, the rule of law, civil society, teachers, media, and cultural workers—then soon there will be no place left for Jews in Europe. No, that’s not an exaggeration. We’ve reached the tip of the iceberg.”
Uber and Authorities Respond
Uber confirmed the driver has been suspended and announced an internal investigation. Meanwhile, Austrian authorities are examining whether the attacker will face criminal charges for assault and incitement.
The incident underscores growing fears within Europe’s Jewish communities that antisemitism is spiraling out of control, with verbal abuse and social hostility increasingly spilling over into physical violence.
