National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir met with Georgia’s Prime Minister to boost cooperation on security, counterterrorism, and law enforcement, while urging support for Israel’s war against Hamas.
Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir landed in Georgia on Sunday evening for an official visit at the invitation of the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs, who oversees Georgia’s police forces.
Ben Gvir met with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze alongside Georgia’s foreign and interior ministers, aiming to deepen political and security ties between the two nations. Also present was Ben Gvir’s chief of staff, attorney Hanamel Dorfman.
The agenda includes high-level talks on:
- Internal security and counterterrorism cooperation
- Joint efforts against organized crime
- Expanded training and knowledge exchanges between Israeli and Georgian law enforcement agencies
- On-site tours of Georgia’s police and prison facilities for operational briefings
During the Sunday meeting, Ben Gvir delivered a stark message on Israel’s ongoing fight against Hamas:
“The State of Israel is defeating Iran and Hezbollah, and is also fighting Hamas in Gaza. Humanity cannot allow Hamas to remain in Gaza — it must be destroyed.”
He also presented photos showing armed Hamas operatives hijacking humanitarian aid trucks, arguing this proves that Hamas, not Israel, is responsible for Gaza’s suffering. Ben Gvir pressed Georgia’s leadership to join calls for the immediate release of Israeli hostages.
Prime Minister Kobakhidze welcomed the visit, saying:
“We want to strengthen the bond between our countries and peoples. We maintain excellent relations with the Jewish community in Georgia and with Israeli tourists, and we would be happy to visit Israel.”
The visit underscores Israel’s efforts to expand security alliances beyond the Middle East, even as it wages war against Hamas and confronts threats from Iran and Hezbollah.
