Over 200 former EU diplomats and senior officials have issued a blistering open letter urging immediate punitive measures against Israel, including arms embargoes, trade bans, and data restrictions.
In an unprecedented diplomatic move, 209 former European Union ambassadors, diplomats, and senior officials have signed a public letter demanding “urgent action against Israel” over its war in Gaza and policies in Judea and Samaria.
The scathing document, addressed to EU leaders and member-state governments, lays out nine hardline measures targeting Israel. Among the recommendations:
- Suspension of arms export licenses to Israel.
- Trade bans on goods and services originating from what they call “illegal communities.”
- Blocking the use of European data centers for Israeli government and commercial activities linked to the “occupied territories.”
The letter’s heavyweight signatories include 110 former ambassadors, 25 ex-directors general, and top EU figures Alain Le Roy, former Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, and Carlo Trojan, former Secretary-General of the European Commission.
The statement goes further, warning that if the EU fails to act collectively, member states should take unilateral or group measures to “support human rights and uphold international law.”
The rare show of coordinated pressure from Europe’s diplomatic veterans signals an intensifying push within Europe to leverage sanctions against Israel—threatening a new wave of political isolation.
