IDF Uncovers Hamas Tunnel City in Southern Gaza, Eliminates Terror Cells in Zeitoun

Israel’s 7th Brigade discovered a kilometer-long Hamas tunnel with living quarters and weapons, while neutralizing terrorists and dismantling infrastructure in Zeitoun.

The Israel Defense Forces announced Thursday that troops of the 7th Brigade, operating under the 99th Division, are conducting major operations in the Zeitoun area of the southern Gaza Strip.

During the sweep, Engineering Corps soldiers working alongside the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit uncovered a sprawling underground Hamas tunnel stretching nearly one kilometer in length. The tunnel was fitted with living quarters and weapons stockpiles, confirming it was used as a military base by Hamas operatives.

In parallel operations, the brigade, with support from the Israeli Air Force, dismantled additional terrorist infrastructure, seized weapons, and eliminated several terrorists who directly threatened IDF forces in the field.

The army emphasized that these actions form part of its broader campaign to uproot Hamas’s entrenched military presence in Gaza: “The IDF will continue operating in the Gaza Strip against terrorist organizations in order to protect the security of Israeli civilians.”

The discovery highlights Hamas’s continued reliance on its underground “terror cities,” even as Israeli forces intensify efforts to destroy the group’s infrastructure across the Strip.
