Israeli forces dismantled Turkish intelligence devices near Damascus during a daring overnight operation, warning Syria’s new regime not to cross red lines.
The Saudi-owned Al-Hadath channel reported Thursday that Israel carried out a covert operation near Damascus, seizing “secret and sensitive equipment” said to have been deployed for years inside Syrian military bases.
According to the report, Israeli forces dismantled Turkish-made surveillance systems that had been installed to monitor Israel. An Israeli security official confirmed the seizure, warning that Syria’s new regime must not follow Ankara’s directives, calling such behavior “playing with fire.”
The official added that the surveillance installations had been positioned in the Damascus area for more than a decade. “We told the al-Shara’ regime not to test our patience and the boundaries of our military actions,” he said.
At the same time, Al Jazeera cited a Syrian military source who described an extraordinary overnight operation in the al-Kiswa district outside Damascus. Four helicopters and two Israeli Air Force fighter jets reportedly entered the area, landing dozens of special forces and heavy vehicles at a Syrian military base.
The commandos conducted a detailed search of the compound for nearly two hours before departing the way they came. Fighter jets were said to have created a protective air corridor, blocking Syrian reinforcements from approaching the site. No exchange of fire was reported.
If confirmed, the operation represents one of Israel’s boldest raids inside Syrian territory in years, underlining both Jerusalem’s determination to disrupt foreign surveillance networks and its willingness to deliver stark warnings to Damascus and Ankara alike.
