555 Days Missing: Massive Search Operation in Tzfat for 9-Year-Old Haymanot Kassau

Hundreds of Israeli police, IDF soldiers, rescue units, and volunteers launched a major search in Tzfat for 9-year-old Haymanot Kassau, missing since February 2024.

A massive search operation was launched in Tzfat (Safed) on Sunday morning for Haymanot Kassau, a girl who has been missing for 555 days since she disappeared in February 2024.

The mission is being led by the Israel Police, with the support of the Israel Canine Unit, the Border Guard, the IDF, local rescue organizations, the Yedidim association, and hundreds of civilian volunteers.

The search is concentrated around the absorption center on Tzahal Street in Tzfat, deploying advanced technology and specially trained dogs. Teams are combing areas within a 500-meter radius of the last confirmed sighting, focusing on places that have never been fully examined.

Haymanot, who was 9 years old on the day she vanished—February 25, 2024—has not been seen since. Despite months of searches, no trace has been found.

An IDF spokeswoman expressed the determination of the forces involved:

“Hundreds of searchers are turning over every stone in order to find Haymanut Kassau. We are not giving up. We are praying for good news.”

The disappearance has deeply shaken the community, with residents of Tzfat joining national forces in the ongoing effort to bring the child home.
