“A Son Returned in Death”: Thousands Mourn Heroic Victim of October 7th Massacre

The funeral of 28-year-old Idan Shtivi, brutally murdered on October 7th and abducted to Gaza, drew crowds of mourners as his parents delivered heartbreaking eulogies, honoring his courage, kindness, and sacrifice.

Hundreds of Israelis gathered Monday afternoon at Kfar Ma’as cemetery to bid a final farewell to Idan Shtivi, the 28-year-old murdered in the October 7th Hamas Massacre. His body, stolen by terrorists into Gaza, was finally recovered last week in a joint IDF–Shin Bet operation.

The funeral procession left Rishon Lezion, where citizens lined the streets to honor Idan, before reaching Kfar Ma’as for burial. Later that evening, Ilan Weiss, whose body was recovered alongside Idan’s, was also laid to rest.

Idan’s mother, Dalit Oron, delivered a devastating tribute:
👉 “On September 27, 2023, just before his abduction, Idan wished me happy birthday. On my birthday this year, August 28, 2025, he was finally returned to me. That is the eternal bond between mother and son.”

Through tears, she described the void left behind: “The calls, the meals he loved, the songs he sang, our conversations on the porch—gone. My son had a pure heart, always caring for the weak. Sensitive, loving, full of giving. Thank you for 28 years of love, my Idani. I am sorry I could not protect you this time.”

His father, Eli, remembered him as a warrior and savior:
👉 “My Idan, the strongest man in Israel. You fought terrorists and gave your life to save others, even when shot in the back. What is holier than saving Jewish lives? I prayed every day for your return. Those prayers did not vanish—they now go to the other hostages still in Gaza. May they come home soon.”

The mourning family’s words turned the funeral into a national moment of grief and pride, reflecting the unbearable cost of October 7th while reaffirming the eternal spirit of Israel’s fallen.
