Federal prosecutors say John Kevin Lapinski Jr., 41, amassed guns, ammo, tactical gear and “detailed” target lists—earning a 25-year sentence for a hate-fueled plot against Jewish and African American people.
A Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after federal authorities uncovered a cache of weapons and “detailed” plans to attack Jewish and African American targets.
John Kevin Lapinski Jr., 41, of Miami, received the sentence on Friday for a series of firearm offenses tied to a broader plot aimed at Jewish and Black Americans, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The Jewish News Syndicate first reported the outcome.
Investigators searching Lapinski’s residence found multiple firearms and gun parts, thousands of rounds of ammunition, tactical gear, body armor, and smoke grenades—items he was legally barred from possessing as a convicted felon. Agents also recovered a shooting target depicting an African American man, riddled with bullet holes.
Prosecutors said Lapinski compiled a target list that included a Jewish member of Congress, local synagogues, Jewish-owned businesses, and other religious and ethnically identified sites. The Justice Department characterized the attack planning as meticulous.
The case underscores a rising federal focus on domestic violent extremism and the use of firearms offenses to incapacitate would-be attackers before plans turn deadly.
