Canada’s PM Carney Condemns Israel’s Doha Strike: “An Intolerable Expansion of Violence”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney blasted Israel’s Operation Summit of Fire in Qatar, calling it a dangerous escalation that undermines peace efforts and hostage negotiations.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a sharp rebuke on Wednesday, condemning Israel’s Operation Summit of Fire—the unprecedented airstrike in Doha, Qatar that targeted Hamas leadership.

In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Carney declared:

“Canada condemns Israel’s strikes in Qatar—an intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.”

Carney warned that such attacks risk spiraling the conflict region-wide, undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and the release of hostages still held by Hamas. He emphasized that Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, plays a “highly constructive role” in mediation that could be derailed by Israeli escalation.

The IDF’s strike in Doha reportedly killed several Hamas operatives, including:

  • Imam Al-Hayya, son of Hamas Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya
  • Jihad Labad, director of Khalil al-Hayya’s office
  • Three bodyguards

Israel has not yet issued an official response to Carney’s condemnation, but Jerusalem is bracing for mounting international backlash as the operation reverberates across global capitals.

With Canada now joining the chorus of critics, Israel faces growing diplomatic turbulence—even as it insists its campaign is aimed at dismantling Hamas’s leadership structure responsible for the October 7 massacre.
