An immigration judge has ordered the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, the anti-Israel agitator who defended Hamas’s October 7 massacre, for concealing information on his green card application.
A major blow has struck the U.S. anti-Israel movement: Mahmoud Khalil, a Syrian-born activist and former Columbia University student, is facing deportation after a Louisiana immigration judge ruled against him.
Judge Jamee Comans ordered Khalil’s removal on September 12, citing his failure to disclose employment history and affiliations when applying for his green card. The ruling directs that Khalil be deported to either Syria or Algeria.
The deportation order comes despite an earlier federal court injunction in New Jersey temporarily blocking his removal, while reviewing claims that U.S. authorities were retaliating against him for his pro-Palestinian Arab advocacy. Khalil’s attorneys now have a 30-day window to appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals, though they concede prospects are grim, noting the 5th Circuit Court “almost never” grants stays of removal.
Khalil gained notoriety for his open support of Hamas terrorism. In an August 6th New York Times interview, he attempted to justify the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre—in which terrorists slaughtered more than 1,200 Israelis—as a “desperate attempt” to “break the cycle.” He refused to call it a mistake, conceding only that “targeting civilians is wrong.”
Despite widespread outrage, Khalil doubled down:
- March 2025 – Detained by ICE as a national security threat, later released on a technicality.
- June 2025 – Immediately joined an anti-Israel protest in New York City, chanting “from the river to the sea.”
- August 2025 – Spotted quoting an Al Jazeera correspondent who doubled as a Hamas terrorist eliminated by Israel.
The Trump administration has pressed ahead with Khalil’s removal, framing it not only as a legal matter of fraudulent disclosure but also as a national security imperative.
Jewish groups welcomed the deportation ruling, viewing it as a necessary step against activists who whitewash terror and threaten American Jewish communities by spreading pro-Hamas propaganda.
