Rosh Hashanah: Adam’s Birthday and the Day of Judgment for All Humanity

Far beyond a “Jewish New Year,” Rosh Hashanah marks the coronation of God as King of the Universe and the judgment of all mankind.

As Rosh Hashanah approaches, it is vital to remember: this is not merely the “Jewish New Year.” It is the birthday of Adam, the first man, and thus the most significant day of the year for all of humanity—a day of judgment for every one of Adam’s descendants.

In this week’s Jerusalem Lights podcast, Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman explore the immense spiritual potential of this holy season, explaining why the Torah calls it the “Day of Shofar Blasts.” The sound of the shofar awakens the soul, reminding us that Rosh Hashanah is the coronation of HaShem as King of the Universe, and a time of renewal for all creation.

This sacred day carries universal meaning: it is when humanity collectively stands before the Creator, seeking to be inscribed in the Book of Life. It is a time for reflection, repentance, and returning to the divine mission we inherited from Adam himself.

The Jerusalem Lights team extends heartfelt wishes:
“Shana Tova uMetuka – May you be written and sealed in the Book of Life for a year of health, happiness, wisdom, peace, and every blessing.”
