President Trump rejected UN accusations against Israel, declaring Hamas’s October 7 atrocities were “genocide at the highest level.”
US President Donald Trump responded Friday to a reporter’s question about former Israeli hostages urging him to press Prime Minister Netanyahu for a ceasefire and to claims by the UN that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
Addressing the hostages’ appeal, Trump acknowledged the difficulty of the situation:
“I always said the last 20 [hostages], when you get down to the last 10 or 20, it’s going to be very tough. It’s a nasty situation. You can’t forget October 7th.” He added that he had been directly involved in previous hostage releases and emphasized his determination: “I was able to get most of the hostages out… we’re down to 20, probably 20 that are living.”
When asked about the UN’s accusation that Israel committed genocide in Gaza, Trump issued a sharp rebuke:
“I haven’t seen that looking at it, but did anybody commit genocide on October 7th? What do you think about that? That was genocide at the highest level. Babies were chopped in half, arms cut off, heads cut off. It’s genocide. Call it whatever you want—but October 7 was genocide.”
Trump’s remarks underscored his long-standing support for Israel while exposing the hypocrisy of international bodies that single out Israel while ignoring Hamas’s barbaric crimes. His comments also highlighted the brutal reality that October 7 was not only terror—it was an attempt to wipe out Jews, echoing the darkest chapters of history.
