France and Italy rally behind President Trump’s Gaza peace framework, demanding Hamas release all hostages and accept disarmament.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have publicly endorsed President Donald Trump’s sweeping proposal to end the Gaza war, urging Hamas to accept the terms and release Israeli hostages immediately.
“I welcome President Trump’s commitment to ending the war in Gaza and securing the release of all hostages,” Macron said Monday evening, adding that “Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan.”
Macron noted that Israel is expected to engage “resolutely” with the framework, while stressing that Hamas must be forced into compliance. He further tied the agreement to broader discussions about regional stability, referencing France and Saudi Arabia’s UN initiative that promotes a two-state solution.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni echoed Macron’s endorsement, calling the Trump plan “a potential turning point” that could achieve a permanent halt to hostilities, immediate hostage release, and secure humanitarian access for civilians in Gaza.
Meloni emphasized that Hamas alone bears responsibility for the war after its barbaric October 7, 2023 massacre in Israel. “Hamas now has the opportunity to end it by releasing the hostages, agreeing to have no role in Gaza’s future, and fully disarming,” she declared.
Both European leaders underlined their readiness to coordinate closely with Washington and regional allies to ensure the plan’s success. Their statements add significant weight to Trump’s initiative, which would dismantle Hamas’ terror machine, return all Israeli hostages, and open the door to Gaza’s reconstruction under international oversight.
For Israel, the chorus of European support underscores a simple reality: the path to peace does not run through concessions to Hamas—it runs through the terror group’s surrender and disarmament.
