Google’s Nest lineup launches sharper cameras, smarter doorbells, and a bold AI platform to outpace Amazon in the global smart home race.
Alphabet’s Google has fired a fresh shot in the smart home battle, unveiling an upgraded suite of Nest-branded hardware just one day after Amazon’s Echo showcase. The timing underscores the escalating war between two U.S. tech giants—one that has far-reaching global implications, including for Israel’s booming smart-tech sector.
Google’s new arsenal includes:
- Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen, $100)
- Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen, $150)
- Nest Doorbell (3rd gen, $180)
- Google Home Speaker ($99, Spring 2026)
Each camera now delivers 2K HDR resolution, a wider field of view (152° for Nest Cams, 166° diagonal for Doorbell), and superior low-light performance. Six hours of event history is standard, with Google Home Advanced unlocking 60 days of clips and 10 days of continuous recording.
Amazon, meanwhile, is touting 4K Ring cameras and faster rollout of its Alexa-powered Echo devices this fall. But Google counters that 2K resolution balances quality and bandwidth, while putting its real weight behind Gemini for Home—the AI successor to Assistant.
Gemini for Home is designed to orchestrate entire households, integrating security, appliances, and routines into a single redesigned Google Home app with tabs for Home, Activity, and Automations. Google claims the update makes the app 80% more reliable.
For Israel, a global leader in AI and home-automation startups, this duel between Amazon and Google could mean new partnerships, data-driven innovations, and opportunities to bring Israeli smart-home security expertise into millions of homes worldwide.
