Terror Strikes Manchester Synagogue: Attacker Killed in Police Shootout, Worshippers Saved

A would-be mass killer was stopped within minutes after targeting a Manchester synagogue during Yom Kippur prayers—security and police bravery averted tragedy.

British police revealed new details on Thursday’s terror attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsall, Manchester. Armed officers fatally shot the assailant within seven minutes of the first emergency call, after he rammed worshippers with a car and attempted to storm the synagogue.

Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson said:

“There were a large number of worshippers inside at the time, but thanks to the immediate bravery of synagogue security staff, worshippers, and the swift action of police, the attacker was prevented from gaining access.”

The synagogue was filled with congregants marking Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day, when the attack unfolded. The assailant was neutralized before he could breach the building, averting what could have been a massacre targeting Jews in prayer.

The incident underscores the rising tide of antisemitic violence in Europe, echoing attacks in France, Germany, and beyond. It also highlights the necessity of Israel’s global fight against terror, as Jewish communities worldwide remain prime targets for extremist hatred.
