Terror Strikes Yom Kippur: Deadly Car-Ramming and Stabbing Outside Manchester Synagogue Leaves Two Dead

On Yom Kippur, worshippers in Manchester faced terror as a synagogue attack left two dead and several wounded.

A sacred day of prayer turned into horror on Thursday morning when a brutal terror attack targeted worshippers outside a Manchester synagogue.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that two people were killed after an assailant rammed his vehicle into pedestrians and then launched a stabbing spree outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsall, just after 9:30 a.m. The suspect, believed to be the attacker, was shot by armed police within minutes, though his condition remains unconfirmed due to “suspicious items” found on his body. A bomb disposal team was deployed to neutralize potential threats.

The assault occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, amplifying the trauma for Britain’s Jewish community. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as emergency crews rushed in, with paramedics donning protective helmets and body armour.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who cut short an overseas trip to chair an emergency COBRA meeting, condemned the assault as “horrific,” vowing that Britain would “stand united against antisemitic terror.”

Initially, four victims were reported injured before police confirmed multiple fatalities. Details of the victims have not yet been released, but the Jewish community has been left shaken by what many fear is part of a growing wave of violent antisemitism sweeping across Europe.

This attack comes amid heightened security concerns for Jewish communities worldwide, with Israeli officials repeatedly warning that antisemitic extremism abroad is emboldened by Hamas propaganda and its global allies.
