Russian Drone Strike Targets Ukrainian Passenger Train, Dozens Injured in Sumy Region

A Russian drone slammed into a passenger train in Ukraine’s Sumy region, injuring dozens in yet another attack on civilians.

Ukraine reeled on Saturday after a Russian drone strike tore into a passenger train at the Shostka railway station in the northern Sumy region, leaving dozens wounded and sparking outrage from Kyiv.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault as a “brutal Russian drone strike on the railway station in Shostka,” sharing footage of a carriage engulfed in flames, its windows blasted out, while stunned survivors scrambled to safety.

Officials said the train had been traveling from Shostka to Kyiv when it was struck. Both passengers and railway workers suffered injuries in the attack, with medics and emergency crews rushing to the scene to provide urgent care.

Regional governor Oleh Hryhorov confirmed the details, while local district chief Oksana Tarasiuk told Ukraine’s public broadcaster that around 30 people were injured, though no deaths were immediately reported.

The strike underscores Russia’s relentless targeting of civilian infrastructure, extending Moscow’s terror tactics from cities and power plants to Ukraine’s vital railway network — a lifeline for millions of citizens and for the country’s war effort.
