Trump Unleashes 155% Tariff on China: Washington Declares Economic War Over Beijing’s Support for Russia”

President Trump vows to impose a 155% tariff and export bans on China starting November 1, accusing Beijing of weaponizing global trade and aiding Russia’s war economy.

The U.S.–China trade war is officially back—with a vengeance.

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday (local time) that his administration will impose a massive 155% tariff on all Chinese goods imported into the United States starting November 1, marking one of the harshest trade penalties in modern history.

Speaking to reporters, including ANI, Trump confirmed the decision, linking it directly to Beijing’s continued role as Russia’s largest oil importer—a move Washington views as undermining global sanctions against Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

“Right now, as of November 1st, China will have about 155 per cent tariffs put on it,” Trump said. “I don’t think it’s sustainable for them.”

Trump emphasized that while he personally seeks amicable relations with Beijing, years of economic exploitation have forced America’s hand.

“I want to be nice to China,” he said. “But China has been very rough with us because we had presidents that weren’t smart from a business standpoint. They allowed China—and every other country—to take advantage of us.”

The decision escalates Washington’s “secondary tariff strategy”, designed to punish nations indirectly bolstering Russia’s wartime economy through energy imports and financial loopholes.

Earlier this year, India was hit with a 50% tariff for similar reasons, but the 155% levy on China signals a dramatic escalation.

In his fiery remarks, Trump underscored that tariffs are a tool of national security, not just economics.

“I made deals with the EU, Japan, and South Korea using tariffs. They’re paying hundreds of billions—trillions—into the U.S. Treasury. We’re finally paying off debt.”

The announcement follows a Truth Social post in which Trump accused China of sending “an extraordinarily hostile letter to the world,” warning that Beijing was preparing to impose export controls on nearly every product it makes—a move he called “a moral disgrace.”

“Starting November 1, we will impose a 100% tariff over and above existing tariffs, and implement export controls on all critical software,” Trump declared.

In effect, Trump has drawn a red line: nations that fuel Russia’s war machine will pay a steep economic price.

The coming tariffs target the world’s largest exporter and could reshape global trade flows overnight—disrupting supply chains from electronics to pharmaceuticals, while pressuring Beijing to rethink its strategic alliance with Moscow.

Behind the rhetoric lies a deeper message: America will no longer tolerate “hostile” economies masquerading as partners.

This is not just a tariff. It’s a financial missile, launched at the heart of China’s export-driven empire.

And come November 1, the world’s two largest economies will collide in a showdown that could redefine 21st-century geopolitics.
