“ADL Launches Emergency Oversight Plan as Anti-Israel Mayor Zohran Mamdani Alarms New York’s Jewish Community”

Following Zohran Mamdani’s election, the ADL initiates oversight and protection measures amid a surge in antisemitic attacks across New York City.

The election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City’s new mayor has triggered widespread concern within the Jewish community, as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) moves swiftly to protect Jews amid fears of a growing wave of antisemitism.

The ADL announced a comprehensive monitoring and safety initiative that will oversee the new administration’s policies, appointments, and public discourse—while also launching a dedicated hotline for reporting antisemitic incidents.

Speaking to Israel National News – Arutz Sheva, Carol Nuriel, CEO of ADL Israel, stressed that the organization’s mission is to safeguard Jewish life and dignity:

“We want to ensure antisemitism in New York is addressed effectively. Jewish safety cannot be taken for granted under any administration,” she said.

According to ADL data, 2024 saw 976 antisemitic incidents in New York—the highest in any U.S. city—and 54% of all hate crimes in the state targeted Jews. In 2025, reports of harassment, vandalism, and violent assaults persisted across all five boroughs, hitting visibly Jewish individuals hardest, particularly within the haredi community.

“Attacks against haredim are often more severe because they are easily identifiable,” Nuriel noted. “New York Jews feel less safe than ever, and we expect Mayor Mamdani to take real action.”

The ADL’s new “public oversight framework” will monitor every move of the Mamdani administration that impacts the Jewish population—from senior appointments and budget allocations to education and hate-crime enforcement policies.

Nuriel warned that Mamdani’s openly anti-Israel stance and refusal to condemn pro-Intifada rhetoric could embolden extremists. “When leaders stay silent in the face of calls for violence, they legitimize it,” she said. “This isn’t free speech—it’s incitement.”

The ADL is also preparing a real-time incident tracker to provide rapid responses to antisemitic acts and coordinate with law enforcement.

As tensions rise, the message from the ADL is resolute: the Jewish community will not be intimidated, and the organization will hold the new administration accountable for every act—or omission—that affects Jewish safety. The election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City’s new mayor has triggered widespread concern within the Jewish community, as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) moves swiftly to protect Jews amid fears of a growing wave of antisemitism.
