Israeli Woman Sues Health Ministry for 7 Million Shekels Over Secret Egg Donation: “The State Lied About My Identity”

Nazareth woman sues Israel’s Health Ministry, claiming concealment of her egg-donor origins caused lifelong trauma, identity collapse, and recognized disability.

A dramatic and precedent-setting case has erupted in Israel’s Nazareth District Court, where a woman identified only as A. has filed a 7 million shekel lawsuit against the Health Ministry, accusing the State of concealing her true biological origins for nearly three decades.

According to court filings, A., born in 1995, recently discovered that she was conceived through an egg donation — and that the woman who carried and raised her was not her biological mother. The revelation, she claims, was withheld by the State for years, shattering her sense of identity and plunging her into deep emotional trauma.

In 2021, the National Insurance Institute officially recognized A. as suffering from a significant disability due to severe depression, which she attributes to the devastating discovery.

The case is being championed by Michael Fuah, chairman of the Choosing Family movement, who has called the lawsuit “a moral and legal turning point.”

“When A. learned that the woman who raised her wasn’t her biological mother, her world collapsed,” Fuah said. “She felt abandoned, deceived, and terrified that she might unknowingly fall in love with a biological sibling. The State created this black hole in her identity — and it must answer for it.”

Fuah argued that while the desire for parenthood is sacred, it “must never come at the expense of the children’s right to truth.” He denounced what he called the State’s policy of ‘creating orphans at birth’ through secret reproductive procedures, calling it both immoral and illegal.

“The court must now decide,” he added, “whether Israel protects only the rights of would-be parents — or also those of the children born from these procedures.”

Fuah concluded emphatically: “Every child has a right to know who their parents are and how they came into the world. When the State hides that truth, it betrays its moral duty — and it must pay the price.”

Legal experts predict that if A. prevails, the verdict could reshape Israel’s reproductive laws, compelling the Health Ministry to ensure full transparency in future fertility and egg-donation procedures.
