IDF exposes Hezbollah Unit 121’s brutal poisoning and staged murder of Christian politician Elias Hasrouni, revealing ongoing terror tactics in Lebanon.
In a major intelligence disclosure, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee exposed explosive new details tying Hezbollah directly to the cold-blooded assassination of Lebanese Christian politician Elias Hasrouni — a prominent opponent of the Iran-backed terror group’s dominance in southern Lebanon.
Hasrouni, who served as secretary-general of the Lebanese Forces party in Bint Jbeil, had long been a vocal critic of Hezbollah’s stranglehold over the region. According to Adraee, Hezbollah decided to silence him permanently.
Late on the night of August 1, 2023, operatives from Hezbollah’s notorious Unit 121 — the group’s internal security and special operations division — ambushed Hasrouni near his home in Ain Ibl. The hit squad kidnapped him, poisoned him, and brutally broke several of his ribs.
Not stopping there, they orchestrated an elaborate cover-up. The terrorists returned his body to his vehicle, smashed the car into a tree, and dumped it in a nearby ditch — attempting to disguise the assassination as a tragic traffic accident.
Unit 121 is infamous inside Lebanon. Known as Hezbollah’s “tracking and special operations” squad, it is tasked with eliminating journalists, officers, rival politicians, and anyone perceived as a threat to Hezbollah’s authority. Its most notorious operation remains the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri — a murder for which the unit’s commander Salim Ayyash was convicted in 2020 by the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
Although Hezbollah has suffered significant blows recently, IDF intelligence warns that the terror group continues wielding Unit 121 as a tool to suppress dissent and destabilize Lebanon from within. Israel’s assessment: Hezbollah remains far more focused on terrorizing its own people than serving the interests of the Lebanese state. In a major intelligence disclosure, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman Lt.
