UN official Reem Alsalem denies Hamas rape on Oct 7 despite UN findings, survivor testimonies and overwhelming evidence of systematic sexual atrocities.
United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women Reem Alsalem has ignited global outrage after falsely claiming that “no rape” occurred during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 massacre — a statement that directly contradicts UN investigations, survivor testimonies, forensic evidence and Hamas’s own documented brutality.
In an inflammatory rant on X, Alsalem insisted that “no independent investigation” found rape had occurred on October 7. She then attempted to draw grotesque moral equivalence between Israel and the Hamas death squads, sneering that Israelis accused of sexual violence would “never be investigated” — not bothering to mention that Hamas rapists were filmed, witnessed, recorded and later celebrated by their own commanders.
Her denial collapses under the weight of the facts.
UN: Reasonable Grounds to Confirm Hamas Rape
A 2024 United Nations inquiry concluded that there were “reasonable grounds” to believe Hamas terrorists carried out rape and sexual torture on October 7. In August 2025, the UN placed Hamas on its blacklist of organizations committing sexual crimes in conflict — a rare designation reserved for groups engaged in mass atrocities.
The world’s most respected outlets documented the horrors. Only weeks after the massacre, the Sunday Times placed Hamas’s sexual terror on its front page, with survivors giving graphic, heartbreaking testimony.
“I saw them rape her as she begged to die. Then they shot her.”
Witness Yoni Saadon described scenes that defy comprehension:
A young woman, beaten by 8–10 Hamas fighters, screaming, “Kill me already!” as they raped her, laughing, before shooting her in the head. Saadon survived only by covering himself in her blood.
He later watched terrorists behead another woman with a shovel as she fought for her life.
These are not abstract claims. These are eyewitness accounts etched into the minds of survivors forever.
Israeli Police: Sexual Violence Was Planned
Chief investigator Shelly Harush, appointed specifically to probe Hamas’s sexual crimes, confirmed that sexual torture was part of the operational plan:
“Thousands of testimonies, photos, and videos make it clear that sexual crimes were intentional — to terrify, degrade, and destroy.”
Zaka Commander: “They tried to rape as many as possible.”
Haim Outmezgine, leading a Zaka recovery unit, said:
“We collected 1,000 bodies in ten days… No one saw more than us. Rape, burning, torture — they wanted maximum horror.”
Female volunteers preparing bodies for burial reported shattered pelvises, broken legs, gunshot wounds to intimate areas, and the unmistakable signs of violent sexual assault.
Hostages Also Describe Systematic Sexual Abuse
Former hostages Keith and Aviva Siegel testified before the UN Committee Against Torture, revealing degrading treatment, sexual torment and the abuse of young female captives.
“The horrors must never happen again,” Keith said.
“They touched the girls. They humiliated us. I wasn’t even allowed to cry,” Aviva added.
Survivor Rom Braslavski, held for two years, described being stripped, tied, starved and sexually abused:
“Its purpose was to crush my dignity. It was hell — every day another hell.”
He added in shaking voice:
“Even the Nazis didn’t do this.”
Alsalem’s Lie: A Betrayal of Women Everywhere
Instead of standing with victims, Alsalem attacked Israel while effectively erasing the suffering of raped, tortured and murdered women — Jewish, foreign, civilian, young and old.
Her denial is not a mistake. It is ideological complicity, the same brand of moral blindness that repeatedly infects UN bodies when judging Israel.
Despite her efforts to whitewash Hamas atrocities, the record stands:
- UN investigations confirm rape.
- Eyewitnesses confirm rape.
- Forensic evidence confirms rape.
- Hostages confirm sexual torture.
- Survivors live with scars only truth can honour.
The atrocities of October 7 were not “claims.”
They were acts of evil, carried out proudly by Hamas — and remembered forever by the Jewish people.
