Jerusalem strongly reprimands Kyiv’s envoy for violating protocol and ignoring Israel’s consistent pro-Ukraine diplomacy.
Israel issued a firm diplomatic reprimand on Wednesday after Ukrainian Ambassador Yevgen Korniychuk publicly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks regarding his conversations with Russia’s president. The ambassador’s comments to Ynet were deemed a breach of acceptable diplomatic conduct, prompting his immediate summons to the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, Deputy Director-General for Eurasia Yuval Fuchs delivered a clear and uncompromising message:
Korniychuk’s remarks were “entirely unacceptable, far from diplomatic protocol, and dismissive of Israel’s demonstrated support for Ukraine.”
Fuchs underscored that Israel has consistently acted with responsibility and clarity since the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia war—highlighted by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s visit to Kyiv and Israel’s repeated supportive votes at the United Nations. Despite this, the ambassador’s statements attempted to cast unwarranted blame on Israel while ignoring these factual commitments.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that while Israel remains committed to cooperation with Ukraine, it expects Ukraine’s representatives to maintain professionalism and respect. Fuchs concluded the meeting by expressing hope that the ambassador’s future public comments will reflect the shared strategic interests and mutual respect that form the foundation of Israel-Ukraine relations.
The episode sends a message: Israel will not tolerate diplomatic grandstanding at its expense, especially when its support has been clear, principled, and costly.
