Another Jewish family shattered as violence strikes at home, highlighting rising insecurity even far from Middle East.

Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the deaths of acclaimed Jewish filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner, after the couple were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Sunday.

Law-enforcement sources told US media that the victims appeared to have suffered fatal knife wounds. Emergency crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical call at approximately 3:30 p.m., discovering a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased inside the residence.

The case is being handled by the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division, though officials have not yet released a formal public statement. Reports indicate investigators are working to determine motive and sequence of events.

According to People magazine, the killings were allegedly carried out by the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, who has previously spoken publicly about a long struggle with drug addiction that began during his teenage years. Authorities have not yet confirmed these details.

Rob Reiner, born in New York City to legendary Jewish entertainer Carl Reiner, rose to fame as “Meathead” on All in the Family before becoming one of Hollywood’s most influential directors. His body of work includes This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, and A Few Good Men—films that shaped generations of American cinema.

Married since 1989, Rob and Michele Reiner were prominent figures in both Jewish cultural life and public activism. The shocking deaths have sent ripples through Hollywood and Jewish communities alike, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances behind the tragedy.
