Israel Acts: Suspect Arrested as Search for Hymanut Kassou Enters Critical Phase
Israeli police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in connection with the disappearance of Hymanut Kassou, the young girl who has been missing since February 2024—a case that has haunted the nation and underscored Israel’s uncompromising commitment to child safety.
Hymanut, nine years old at the time, was last seen on security footage entering the absorption center in Safed where she lived with her family. Since that moment, she vanished without a trace—triggering an intensive, multi-agency search effort.
The arrest followed an attempted attack on another girl in Be’er Sheva, after which the suspect was taken into custody. His detention has been extended for seven days as investigators assess whether there is a direct connection to Hymanut’s disappearance.
Recognizing the gravity of the case, police transferred the investigation to Lahav 433, Israel’s elite national crime unit, tasked with examining all possibilities—without assumptions, shortcuts, or political pressure.
A gag order has been imposed by the Rishon LeZion Magistrate’s Court, restricting publication of investigative details until next Monday, to protect the integrity of the inquiry and prevent interference.
This case highlights a stark reality: Israel does not look away. When a child is missing, the state mobilizes its strongest tools, prioritizing victims over narratives and truth over speculation. There is no tolerance for predators, no matter how complex or sensitive the case.
As the investigation deepens, the nation waits—united in hope for answers, justice, and accountability.
