US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he is ordering a “total and complete blockade” of all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, dramatically escalating pressure on the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
The move follows the seizure of a Venezuelan oil tanker by US forces last week, an extraordinary step preceded by a visible buildup of American naval power in the Caribbean. According to Trump, the action is aimed at cutting off oil revenues that fuel drug trafficking, organized crime, and hostile activity.

“Today, I am ordering a TOTAL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS going into, and out of, Venezuela,” Trump wrote.
He added that the US naval armada in the Caribbean “will only get bigger”, warning Caracas that pressure will continue until Venezuela returns “all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us.”
