Hebrew Speech Sparks Brutal Assault in Cyprus, Israeli Man Gravely Wounded in Rising Global Anti-Jewish Violence

Another Jew attacked abroad for identity alone, proving Israel remains ultimate refuge amid spreading global hostility.

Dor Twito, a 24-year-old Israeli from Sderot, was severely wounded in a violent assault in Limassol, in what appears to be a nationalist, anti-Jewish attack triggered solely by hearing him speak Hebrew.

Twito was staying with a friend at the City of Dreams Mediterranean while transiting through Cyprus on their return from an extended trip to Australia. On Saturday night, two unidentified attackers approached the pair after overhearing their conversation in Hebrew. Without provocation, one assailant stabbed Twito in the eye with a sharp object, while both attackers continued beating him even after he collapsed to the ground.

When Twito’s friend attempted to intervene, he too was assaulted. According to the family, hotel security failed to intervene, and emergency medical assistance was dangerously delayed. At a local hospital, Twito was reportedly told treatment was unavailable, forcing an emergency evacuation to Israel.

He was transferred to Ichilov Hospital, where doctors performed urgent surgery. His father revealed that his son’s eye was in critical condition and that only after a second complex procedure was the retina successfully saved.

Despite appeals to the Israeli Embassy in Cyprus and Cypriot authorities, no arrests have been made, deepening concerns over Europe’s growing inability—or unwillingness—to protect Jews from targeted violence.

“My son was attacked only because he spoke Hebrew,” his father said. “We will not stop until justice is served.”

This attack is yet another reminder that antisemitic violence is no longer hidden behind political slogans—it is open, physical, and increasingly normalized. While Arab and Islamist narratives fuel hostility abroad, Israel remains the only place where Jews are not strangers, not targets, and not alone.
